Types of News Headline

I will show you the 3 types of news headline both in full and short sentence.
1. To give information
     Ex. US urges Thailand to seize drug profits.            Full form
            Cabinet reshuffle              Short form
2. Begin with Question ( it is affirmative sentence which end of ?)
     Ex. New Cabinet today?
3. To quote of other people (the word “say” always written in this type.)
     Ex. China says no more military aid to KR.

Abbreviations in new headlines

Have any abbreviations occurred in sources you read?
MPs = Member of Parliament
PM = Prime Minister
KR = Khmer Rough
Govt = Government
Ex. PM on inspection tour

This is the cardinal Rule of the News Headline.
1. Always use Present Tense
Ex. Slum fire leaves 88 homeless.
Even though, headline is in the present, but content may be in the past.
2. Article and auxiliary verb can be omitted.Ex. A Volunteer and rangers are killed in an ambush.
       Volunteer, rangers killed in ambush

New Headlines

              In the same time, I have learned about News Headlines. This is really important that can attract more readers. The objectives of news headlines are to give information to readers suddenly and motivating reader’s interested.

Types of News

         I have read a book about translation Thai into English. I have found some problems in translation including: weak of grammar, lack of vocabulary, long sentence without full stop, lack of background knowledge, lack of translation skill and word disorder. Moreover; I have learned many types of news, including Royal Family news, Political news, Economic news, social news, Crime news, Sport news and Documentary/feature story news.

Translation by using Modal Verbs

Can : This word can tell the ability, requst and permission.
           Ex: Your sister can speak English very well. (ability)
                 You can take my care. (permission )
                 Can he pass me the salt?  (requst)
We can use "can" on positive, negative and interrogative.
          Ex: The tempurature can sometimes reach 40c in April. (positive)
                 I can't see you today but I could see you tommorrow. (negative)
                 Can you speak French? (interrogative)
Remember: We can use "Could" for past of "can" and use it for more polite way.
         Ex:  I could swim. (past of can)
                 Could you turn on th light? (polite way)

General Knowledge

I have read a book abou traslation and know that; there are 3 charateristics of translation including text, hidden meaning and translation smoothly. "The first business of translator is to translate". (to quote of Peter Newmark 1995:5) An important thing of this translation is a text. All translators have to read until they understand it clearly.

Translation 2

All students have to translate many things in Thai to English. Most of students think that this course is more difficult that the last. Students have to gather all knoweldge: grammar, word order, vocabulary, etc. Whenever, a students are weak some of them, they can not learn this course very well.
